While the holidays are filled with Christmas carols, gift-buying, and visits to loved ones, getting the right protection is key for a hassle free shopping spree. As more Filipinos turn to the convenience of online shopping, everyone needs to be wary of the different types of scams.
In a study conducted by TransUnion on global trends in digital fraud, shipping fraud was identified as one of the most significant threats, growing by 780.5% between 2020 and 2021. Scammers can commit shipping fraud by using a fake website or a fake item on a legitimate retailer's website to pose as trusted online sellers. While many online merchants are trustworthy, scammers take advantage of the internet's anonymity to defraud innocent customers.
Additionally, one of the most typical ways scammers gain trust is by taking control of the product pages and posting a large number of fake positive reviews and testimonials in an effort to make the products look real and of high quality.
GCash, the country’s leading e-wallet app, makes it easy to ensure a merry and bright Christmas season. With Online Shopping Protect, shoppers can now shop with peace of mind without having to double- or triple-check reviews that turn out to be unreliable.
This holiday season, GCash's new Online Shopping Protect is a convenient, complete, and affordable shopping partner to ensure the security of your purchases. GCash, in collaboration with worldwide insurance firm Chubb, combats online fraud with Online Shopping Protect by seamlessly incorporating protection coverage into online transactions done through e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Zalora, and Tiktok.
Illegal gaming operators are drawing increasing numbers of customers to their platforms, targeting even minors and students to their nefarious activities, by offering fewer restrictions to participate in online gambling.
This, despite the implementation of strict measures by authorities to curb illegal gambling. Their lack of regulation, combined with aggressive marketing tactics like cashbacks and free money for first-time players, makes it attractive to vulnerable groups, potentially leading to increased gambling frequency and wagers.
Deception by fake websites
Licensed betting sites approved by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) strictly adhere to the "know your customer" verification process to ensure that only those allowed by law can participate in the games.
In failing to abide by Pagcor's rules and standards, unlicensed online gaming sites are damaging the industry's potential, with malicious entities creating fake websites to deceive users. They also disregard other laws and regulations, including tax obligations as well as measures meant to protect the safety and privacy of bettors.
OKBet, a local gaming platform licensed and regulated by Pagcor, recently uncovered an alarming number of fraudulent websites masquerading as its online sportsbook. These malicious pages use domain names nearly identical to the official OKBet website, prompting the company to remind the public to only access its website through the correct web address, www.OKBet.com.
Not your regular Christmas pasta: 5 yummy recipes for Noche Buena
El Real Pasta 12/22/2022 08:39:00 PMFilipino families have different ways of enjoying Noche Buena during Christmas. Some usually have their go-to dishes, including recipes that were passed down from moms and lolas.
One staple in Noche Buena spreads are pasta dishes, like macaroni salad and sweet Filipino spaghetti. While you have favorite recipes na nakasanayan, you can try something new to make your pasta dishes extra special for Christmas this year. To do this, make sure that you have quality ingredients, like El Real Pasta, to whip up a delicious dish that your loved ones will enjoy.
The possibilities with pasta or “pastabilities” are endless, so here are some recipes you can do for your Christmas spread:
Creamy Bistek Tagalog Pasta
Incorporate the flavors of the Filipino-favorite ulam Bistek Tagalog to your pasta dish, but with a creamy twist. The beef will be marinated in soy sauce, calamansi, and garlic for 30 minutes before pan-frying and simmering it in marinade. Complete the savory sauce with all-purpose cream and let it simmer for a couple minutes or until thick. Mix in the al dente El Real Flat Spaghetti, and top it with onion rings, chopped spring onions, and parmesan cheese.

Sushi Bake
This popular merienda can also become a hit during Noche Buena. Recreate a sushi bake by switching up the rice with El Real Elbow Macaroni. Just mix the macaroni with homemade aburi sauce and top it off with shredded crab sticks, diced mangoes, and ebiko flakes. Bake it in an oven for 10 minutes, and voila, you have a pasta-fied sushi bake in time for Noche Buena.

Lechon Paksiw Pasta
Did you know that you can add lechon to your pasta dish? The Lechon Paksiw Pasta uses El Real Flat Spaghetti with shredded lechon meat, lechon sauce, all-purpose cream, and various vegetables for the sauce. This savory pasta dish may not be your usual recipe, but the tasty lechon paksiw flavor of the pasta will surely impress guests. It’s also a great way to use up leftover lechon from previous gatherings and incorporate the ingredient to your Noche Buena meal.

Pasta Valenciana
Make your El Real Spaghetti fancy by turning it into Pasta Valenciana. This Spanish paella-inspired dish is made with tomato paste, onion, and garlic for the sauce, and chicken and carrots for the toppings. It requires you to place the pasta in the sauce while it’s simmering in a saucepan until the bottom is toasted. Assemble the Pasta Valenciana and serve for a hearty Noche Buena meal.
See the full Pasta Valenciana recipe here.
Nutty Rainbow Salad Delight
For dessert, you can make an elevated version of the classic macaroni salad using walnuts and cashews. After prepping and cooking the El Real Elbow Macaroni and fruit cocktail, mix them in a bowl with Kremdensada until they’re well-incorporated. Top it off with cheese, walnuts, and cashews for an added saltiness and crunchiness. This will be the perfect ending for your Noche Buena.

We’re a few days away from Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and the gatherings are starting to pile up. As we prepare to spend time with loved ones, it’s important to stay healthy and protected, so you can lessen your worry about untimely sickness and enjoy the holidays with your family and friends.
Apart from the usual Noche Buena and Media Noche prep, here’s what you can do to make sure that you have a safe and healthy holiday season:
1. Make hand washing a habit
Regular hand washing can lessen the spread of germs, especially if you’re meeting with different family members and barkadas. It’s also a simple and quick way to help avoid sickness during your gatherings.
2. Eat and prepare healthy dishes
There will be a lot of food at holiday gatherings, so it’s important to have healthy meals with fruits and vegetables on the menu. This will provide you and your loved ones the nutrients you need to feel upbeat and energized throughout the season. Of course, don’t forget to drink water in between meals as well.
3. Drink Goodday for digestion and immunity
To avoid feeling sick after multiple feasts, you can have a bottle of Goodday ready in your fridge. This cultured milk drink contains unique paraprobiotics Lactobacillus paracasei MCC1849, also known as LAC-Shield, that can help strengthen one’s immune system. It aids in the production of antibodies to give you the “YUMimmunity” you need to face the holiday season. Plus, it can improve your digestive health too.
Goodday comes in three flavors, Original, Strawberry, and Mango in 80ml and 350ml bottles that both kids and adults will enjoy. It’s a great health and energy booster to get you through the Christmas and New Year bustle.
4. Have a workout schedule
It can be hard to work out over the holidays, especially if you’re going to multiple parties. But you can always do quick workouts from home, like yoga or brisk walking around your neighborhood, so you’ll feel alert throughout the day. Consistent physical activity can also help boost your immune system, so you can attend more gatherings.
5. Get some much-needed rest
After attending late-night parties with loved ones, it’s important to have enough rest to recharge in time for the next one. Make sure that you get at least eight hours of sleep, and even have a free day for yourself so you can just focus on your me-time.
The holiday season can be hectic, but it doesn’t have to feel like it when you’re healthy and energized. Just remember that if you’re feeling under the weather, it’s best to avoid gatherings so you can recover and help prevent potential disease from spreading.
As much as it’s exciting to catch up with loved ones, it’s equally important to have safe Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations. So, make sure to practice proper health protocols and get your daily dose of Goodday to ensure healthy holidays.
Goodday is available at nearby convenience stores and supermarkets nationwide, and online on Lazada and Shopee. A bundle of five 80ml bottles retails for P53.00 and a 350ml bottle is P41.50.

Herbalife Nutrition’s Simply Recycle Challenge Sees Over 712,000 Product Canisters Submitted for Recycling from 3,300 Participants across the Asia Pacific Region
Go Green 12/15/2022 02:48:00 PM
Premier global nutrition company, Herbalife Nutrition today announced the results of its Simply Recycle Challenge, a regional initiative that aimed to motivate its members across the Asia Pacific markets to submit used Herbalife Nutrition product canisters for recycling. Held from June to August this year, the program accumulated a total of 712,232 product canisters, weighing 36 tonnes – which is equivalent to six African elephants, from more than 3,300 Herbalife Nutrition members who participated in the Challenge.
The result of the Simply Recycle Challenge will also enable Herbalife Nutrition to plant 1,421 trees through its partnership with the non-profit organization, One Tree Planted. On average, a tree can absorb about 10kg of carbon dioxide per year for the first 20 years, therefore, these trees could sequester the equivalent of approximately 14 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the planet every year, equivalent to two round-the-world trips in terms of carbon footprint generated by a car running on petroleum.
“We are delighted with the results of the Challenge and the positive response from our members in support of this green initiative,” said Stephen Conchie, Regional President of Asia Pacific and China for Herbalife Nutrition. “Environmental stewardship is a key component of our global responsibility strategy. From implementing the Simply Recycle Challenge to incentivize recycling of our product packaging, to reducing use of plastic throughout our distribution network, we are taking meaningful steps to do what’s needed to promote a sustainable future for people and the planet.”
Launched on World Environment Day 2022 (June 5) as part of the company’s Go Green initiative in Asia Pacific, the Simply Recycle Challenge encouraged Herbalife Nutrition independent members and Nutrition Club owners across the region to recycle their used Herbalife Nutrition product canisters.
Apart from the Simply Recycle Challenge, some Herbalife Nutrition markets in the Asia Pacific region have implemented additional recycling programs in partnership with local organizations; for instance:
●In Vietnam, Herbalife Nutrition has collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (HANE) to convert used product canisters into plastic grains for reuse in manufacturing;
●In the Philippines, the company’s partnership with Green Antz enables the transforming of discarded product packaging into green building materials;
●In Malaysia, the company has engaged Recycle for Life (RFL) to collect used product canisters and bottles from its Sales and Distribution Center in Kuala Lumpur on a regular basis. 100% of the cash rewards resulted from this program will be donated to Herbalife Nutrition Foundation to improve the lives of children and communities in the country; and
●In Thailand, the company donates used product canisters to Chak Daeng Temple in the Samut Prakan Province for reprocessing into useful materials.
On a global level, Herbalife Nutrition continues with ongoing initiatives in eliminating negative environmental impacts, such as reducing the use of plastic by increasing the integration of recycled materials like PCR (post-consumer resin) in its Formula 1 canisters, while decreasing the overall amount of packaging for its nutrition products.

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC Group) shares a few tips on how Filipinos can have a meaningful holiday season- the budget-friendly and eco-friendly way. APC Group General Manager of Corporate Planning and Public Relations Roann Co said, “We, at Ajinomoto, believe that there is no small contribution when it comes to caring for the environment. Through our tips below, we hope to empower Filipinos in giving the gift of sustainability this holiday season.”
Here are some eco-friendly and meaningful ways to celebrate the holidays:
1.Recycled gift wraps and Do-It-Yourself gifts
Using old magazines and newspapers as an alternative gift wrapper isn’t a new practice to Filipinos. But, it is definitely something that we should further encourage among our families and friends. Not only does it help the environment, it is also easy on the pocket too!
Moreover, if you’re still wondering what gifts you should give, you can check some of the winning DIY projects during the online contest for Ilabas ang SustainAbilidad campaign such as the apron made from the wrappers of used Ajinomoto products and a DIY toy kitchen set for kids who want to learn to cook. You can also try re-inventing some of the projects to make it more creative and more heart-felt.
2.Solar-powered string lights
Christmas decorations are incomplete without bright lights at home and on streets. Retire your vintage decors by using solar-powered lights which give you the same merry evenings with less electricity consumption and environmental impact. And since these solar-powered decors don’t add to your electricity bill, you may also consider maintaining this type of ambient lights on your garden and terraces.
Beyond homes, Ajinomoto has also introduced solar energy to its Bulacan factory and it is projected to offset around 865 metric tons of carbon dioxide which is equivalent to reducing 2,352,456 miles in vehicle travel per year.
3.Prepare delicious, nutritious, and eco-friendly holiday meals
What makes Filipino holidays special is the variety of food options planned and prepared by home cooks. Bring out the flavor of your favorite handaan dishes like Pinoy spaghetti, lumpiang shanghai, adobo, kaldereta, and more with the new AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning 45g paper pack. The new packaging is made from a natural paper material that can be planted, grown, harvested, and then replanted which means you’re not only preparing delicious food for the family but also helping the environment.
Here are some holiday recipe ideas you may try:
Pasta Chips
Instead of buying salty potato chips as an appetizer for your guests this Christmas, why not try making your own chips at home? These Pasta Chips recipe can turn your typical soft pasta into a crispy delight that’s also less sodium, thanks to AJI-NO-MOTO®!
Just deep-fry sliced and cooked lasagna sheets in a pan with oil. Drain excess oil using a strainer. While hot, immediately sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese and AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning for that added umami-goodness.
Chicken Cajun Pasta
New pasta dish to impress! Savor the delicious kick from Cajun and the savory goodness of AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning.
Heat oil and melt butter in a pot. Add the chicken pieces then cook until golden brown. Chicken breast is a great source of lean Protein to help build strong muscles. Add the onions, tomatoes, French beans then cook for 3 minutes. Toss together the cooked penne pasta. To ensure an al dente texture or slightly firm pasta, cook pasta one minute less than the package instructions. Drain then you may opt to drizzle a little bit of olive oil to avoid the pasta from sticking together.
Season with cream cheese and your homemade Cajun spice mix – smoked paprika powder, dried oregano, dried thyme, AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning, and cayenne powder. Mix and cook for 3-5 minutes. Transfer to a plate then garnish with spring onions. This is another pasta dish that is complete with Go, Grow, and Glow Foods!
APC Group’s campaign for sustainability is part of its Ajinomoto Group creating shared value (ASV) framework which directs the company to realize greater wellness for people around the world through thoughtful business activities focusing on health and the environment.
“This holiday season, may we have more food to share and gifts to give. And more importantly, may the spirit of giving extend towards caring for the environment,” Co said.

Your job as parents is to support them throughout the process so they can choose their path and find an educational institution that will not only make them happy, but also bring out the best in them as they prepare for real life. Here are helpful ways you can help determine the best school for your child without going overboard:
1. Create a list of school options with your child. If your child doesn’t have a particular dream school, you should help them gauge their choices by brainstorming with them. It’s vital that you take time to listen and understand what your child needs and wants.
For instance, if your child is an independent learner who learns best at his own pace, he might do better in a Montessori school. If your child responds better in a structured teaching style, then a traditional school might be best for him. Keep an open mind and decide on what will give your child what he needs.
2. Visit school campuses with your child. Some academic institutions have impressive websites with carefully curated photos, but in reality, the school leaves much to be desired. Instead of relying on brochures and the internet, take time to visit school campuses with your kid.
Schools are open to tours. You just need to schedule your visit in advance unless you’re an alumnus of that institution and have access to the grounds. You and your child can get a feel of the campus atmosphere to determine if it’s the right fit.
3. Provide guidance and support. While your child should have a say on where they will study, you should give them guidance based on pros and cons, and what you know about the school options. Choosing a school is a big decision and might cause anxiety for your child, so it’s best to be there for them.
The best way to provide emotional support is by actively listening to them. You should make your child feel comfortable about discussing their options and fears. Listen to understand where they’re coming from so you can help them make the right choice.
4. Prepare financially as soon as possible. Tuition fees are very expensive, especially with rising inflation so you need to prepare and be ready to provide for your child’s education. This way, you will be able to provide the best education for them.
Once you have made your choice for your child’s primary education, it is time to think ahead and prepare for the next big educational expense: college. You can save up on your own, or you can get AIA Philippines’ Future Scholar, an insurance product that gives guaranteed cash payouts that can help pay for your child’s tertiary education. Whatever happens, you’re confident your child will be able to get the college education that you envisioned.
Future Scholar doesn’t just help you afford costly school expenses. Aside from guaranteed savings, Future Scholar has an investment component so you can look out for your child financially even after they graduate from college. Moreover, you can choose to build your child’s education funds in five years or until the child reaches the age of 17. Should you decide not to use the funds for educational expenses, it can also be used for other big expenses in the future like buying a car or post graduate studies abroad.
In addition, Future Scholar gives you peace of mind. Whatever happens, your child will have money set aside for his future needs. Aside from that, your child or your chosen beneficiary can also be entitled to an additional lump-sum cash benefit should anything untoward happen to you.
“We know that the pandemic and the volatile economy has made everyone insecure about their savings. As a parent myself, I understand every parent’s desire to ensure that there are guaranteed benefits intended for their child’s future,” said Tennyson Paras, AIA Philippines’ Head of Products. “And this is what we had in mind when our Products Team designed AIA Future Scholar. We wanted to make sure that no matter what happens, a healthier, longer and better life awaits our children.”

Adamant to provide students with venues where they can fully hone their skills and knowledge, SM Foundation (SMFI)—the corporate social responsibility arm of the SM group—cemented its partnership with the Department of Education (DepED) in 2002 through DepEd’s Adopt-A-School Program.
Through this, SMFI builds SM school buildings in grassroot communities, complete with basic furniture and equipment. More so, SMFI integrates specialized features to each SM school building to address the unique needs of their school recipients—some received rooms dedicated as a guidance office, a clinic, a mini-library, and some even got a water tank and a handwashing facility.
SM school building in Sorsogon City |
To date, SMFI has turned over more than 100 SM school buildings nationwide with the help of its partners, which share the same aspirations for the Filipino learners and teachers. One of which is the SM Prime Holdings (SMPH) - one of the largest integrated property developers in Southeast Asia. Since the project’s inception, over 90 SM school buildings out of the more than 100 were built through the social good collaboration with SM Prime.
Infrastructure for calamity prone areas
SMFI and SMPH ensure that the SM school buildings incorporate a disaster resilient design to guarantee the safety of the students, teachers, and other school personnel. Emergency lights at both staircases, and fire and earthquake alarm bells are also installed.
Principal Joji Buelvo, school principal of Basud Elementary School (BES) in Sorsogon City, shared the state of their school community before they accepted the fully furnished SM school building from SMFI and SM Prime in 2021: “Ang aming paaralan ay saksi sa maraming kalamidad. Kaya karamihan ng mga classrooms ay may kalumaan na, ang mga kisame ay malapit na bumagsak—talagang hindi na conducive for learning.”
“But through your [SMFI and SM Prime] donation, our BES learners now have a haven where we can nurture their young minds to be academically-ready and well-rounded members of the community,” Buelvo further expressed.
Addressing classroom shortage
The continuous rapid growth of the country’s population is taking a toll on schools—leaving the students, even the teachers, with overcrowded classrooms which affect learners’ academic performance.
In 2012, the Banisil National High School (BNHS) in General Santos City received its first SM school building. But being the only secondary school in Barangay Tambler, BNHS records a significant increase in their enrollment per year. With this challenge, SM Foundation decided to provide another edifice of hope for the sub-urban Muslim community in 2021, addressing the growing needs of BNHS learners and teachers.
BNHS then principal Shiela Balbon said, “Yung patuloy na paglobo ng population every year ay talagang naging suliranin namin.” “Pagpasok ng 2020, nagkaroon ng COVID. So naisip ko baka hindi na matuloy. Pero itong SM Foundation, walang pande-pandemya sa kanila. Talagang desidido silang matugunan yung pangangailangan sa classroom ng mga estudyante,” she added.

“Our salute to our longtime partner, SM Foundation and SM Prime, for being so generous and proactive in providing us with school buildings that are conducive to learning. We are so grateful for your extended support to our school amidst the pandemic,” Balbon concluded.
SM Foundation, through its School Building Program, is an active partner of DepEd’s Adopt-a-School project. This social good initiative aims to promote quality public education by building classrooms nationwide.
Named in honor of the late SM Founder, the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall of UST will rise on the main campus in Manila to respond to the needs of digital medical education.
The Hall will feature technologically advanced facilities and equipment that complement UST’s teaching, learning, and research practices. Focused on interdisciplinary collaboration in medical studies, it will also house the simulation and research facility of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (UST-FMS).
Paragons with passion
Fr. Richard Gaw Ang, OP, Rector of UST, thanked the Sy family as they work together to provide the best education to future physicians and increase UST’s research productivity to fill the gaps where communities are disadvantaged.
“Your family consists of industry leaders who have visions for the Filipino community. Your choice to support this endeavor of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is a significant stamp of approval to the work and tradition of this medical institution,” Fr. Ang said in a letter to the Sy family.
UST’s future Henry Sy, Sr. Hall
Rising as an intellectual hub for future physicians, the building has a dedicated floor for the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery Research Center and the Medicine and Surgery Graduate Programs and Ethics Review Board. Here, medical education research and various medical-related specialty research will be reviewed and conducted.
The building will include specialized centers, rooms, and laboratories, such as Medical Simulation Centers and Care Ultrasound Institute, and Otorhinolaryngology Laboratory. These will be equipped with cutting-edge tools and technology to develop medical students’ competencies in multiple simulated healthcare settings crossing the human lifespan.
Thumbs up! Leaders of the Henry Sy Foundation Inc. (HSFI) and the University of Sto Tomas during the Henry Sy Sr. Hall partnership signing. |
