It's another out of town adventure in my life and this time it's somewhere in Zambales. It's quite different from the usual leisure and relaxation that I used to do when going in an out of town adventure. This time it's for a cause, an advocacy!

This particular event is very near to my heart. It's an activity that touches my past. As I have mentioned before in some of my post, I was once a sponsored child and being one can really help me relate with the children. I am so glad when Ms. Kristine of World Vision invited me to join with this Noche Buena Campaign in Zambales. It's indeed a pleasure to be a part and a bridge to promote this campaign.

The walk

It was last November 10, 2012 when we went to Zambales in a school to meet some of World Vision's sponsored child. I think the range of their age is from 7 to 10 years old. They started the program earlier before we arrived, it was almost lunch time when we get there. It was a one day activity for the children.


Each Blogger had an opportunity to be with one kid during the whole program. The bloggers and the staff of World Vision stood as their big brother and big sister. It's more of a bonding thing with these children.


There I met Frem (my nickname for her), an 11 year old girl who's so shy just like me. Perhaps that's why we became close because of that, hahaha. Frem was a grade five student with lots of stories at her age, even though filled with so much things she's still eager and want to learn more. While having an activity together, one of the blogger took a picture of us and I thought she was that shy but I was amazed when she suddenly raised her hand to her face and made the peace sign like the Japanese girls do. Hahaha, she wasn't shy after all.


As the activity goes on Frem's emotion suddenly felt in her drawings. It reflects her life and her saddest moment. I'm not really an artist but I can sense deep emotions through her drawings and perhaps that's the reason why we're there, to give comfort with what they are going through. Being there having some great fun activities made them forget unwanted memories. Even though it was just a short span of time at least we have made them smile.

Moms like me loves to watch teleserye or TV series and it's even greater when given a chance to watch the first few episodes of these teleseryes.  A few days ago I was given a chance to watch the first two weeks of the latest teleserye of ABS CBN "A Beautiful Affair" which is starred by John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.   It was a full two and a half straight viewing of "A Beautiful Affair", no commercials and no disturbance just a plain watching experience.  At first I thought it was just the first whole week episode of the teleserye but I was amazed that they were able to squeeze in the two week part of it.  It was really amazing viewing "A Beautiful Affair" in a wide screen.

The first two week episode was all about their scene in Paris.  The view and scenery were quite romantic and here it tells the story how John Lloyd and Bea's character met and did something romantic enough that they would remember, I think, hahaha.   Anyway the whole two and a half is about the start of their life's story, what they came through with their life, and how they met in a very lovely place called Europe.

If you have watched some of the first few days better keep on watching as it gets interesting by the time.  Watch "A Beautiful Affair" every day on primetime bida at 9 pm right after InaKapatidAnak.

 Mommies are the life saver of Christmas, I'm a mom so I'm proud of it and I'm happy that Kraft thought of us the unsung heroes of Christmas. Yes we are the planner, initiator, and implementor of things that would make a family Christmas celebration worth remembering.



This year, as part of the 4th year celebration of Kraft Eden Sarap ng Pasko, mommies are recognized and for this year's theme is “Dahil Sa 'Yo Ma”. The event was launched at Chef Laudico's Bistro Filipino Restaurant witnessed by media people.

The entire event was packed with different activities that praises the hard work of mommies during Christmas. Filipino moviegoers will sure have a glimpse of the magic between this love team, Thai superstar Mario Maurer and Philippine sweetheart Erich Gonzales in a Star Cinema's first Filipino-Thai romantic comedy film titled as "Suddenly It's Magic."

This movie has an interesting romantic plot, beautiful scenes shot in the Philippines and Thailand, and astonishing international appeal,  "suddenly It's Magic" keeps on rousing strong positive reactions from the public.  Some have even made it a daily topic on social networking sites and newspapers.

The Thai heartthrob will be in Manila beginning Monday, October 29 until the first day of showing of their movie on October 31 just to personally promote it.  Aside from the grand premier night on Tuesday, October 30 at SM Megamall, Mario and Erich will also grace various ABS-CBN shows to promote their film.

This movie is directed by Rory B. Quintos and it tells the story of a Thai superstar Marcus Hanson which was played by Mario, who finds the magic of love in the Philippines, where he meets the heartbroken pastry baker named Joey Hermosa which was played by Erich.  It's quite disturbing with one of their scene.  If you want to know just watch it.

Following the significant changes on the surroundings and the lifestyle of residents along the esteros revived by the Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP), the campaign for the rehabilitation of Pasig River is set for an aggressive push to spur local government units in cleaning their own esteros.

This year, KBPIP is focused on the waterways in Quezon City which empties most of its trash to the San Juan River. San Juan River, meanwhile, contributes over 40% of the filth that flows into the Pasig River.

“If we clean San Juan River, we’ll clean half of Pasig River. If we have to clean San Juan River, we have to clean Quezon City,” said Gina Lopez, the managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation that operates KBPIP.

KBPIP patterns much of its rehabilitation efforts after the rehabilitated and beautified Estero de Paco in Manila. It has since undergone a major makeover since the start of its rehabilitation in 2009 – what used to be an immense garbage patch occupied by informal settlers is now a park bordered by plants and illuminated by streetlights.

The rehabilitation process of the estuary began by relocating thousands of families living along the waterways, building linear parks, training of River Warriors or community volunteers who clean and guard the esteros against polluters, and installing active island reactors to bring life back into the estero waters.

Using Estero de Paco as a template, Lopez said she wants every estuary in the metro to be developed as a commercial hub where residents can earn a living and improve their lives. Lopez even takes pride in the construction of a supermarket and a three-story hotel near Estero de Paco that she said wouldn’t have been possible had the estero not been cleaned.

“The conjecture here is that when you clean the esteros, the economy will boom up,” said Lopez.

Lopez also emphasized the benefits of the Estero de Paco clean-up on the lifestyle of residents in the area. For one thing, the estero’s vicinity didn’t suffer from flooding during the onslaught of rains brought by the monsoon winds last August because water could flow easily without trash jamming the stream. Since the estero was cleaned, substantial changes have been noted in the area. Based on the barangay blotter, a 40% reduction in crime incidence was recorded in seven out of 16 barangays near the estero. According to the City of Manila, the value of land near Estero de Paco has also gone up and might benefit the land owner of up to P2 million in 20 years.

More notably, a survey sponsored by KBPIP with 7,000 households living within 200 meters from Estero de Paco revealed that 100% are getting more exercise, 97% have greater sense of community pride, 97% are satisfied with their lives, 89% feel less sick, and 89% feel safer in their community. Eighty five percent of them also claimed they have lower medical expenses due to their cleaner and healthier environment.

“Cleaning the esteros reaches far beyond the economic effect. It goes into the very way they feel about themselves, the way they feel about each other. This is the way to go. We clean the estero and we have a much happier and fulfilled life,” Lopez stressed.

The long-term crusade for cleaner waterways in Metro Manila will go full blast in the upcoming “09.30.2012 Run, Ride & Roll for the Pasig River” to be held at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Sunday (Sept 30). Over 80,000 participants are expected to show up and take part in the advocacy event that will fund the rehabilitation of esteros in Quezon City.

“The Quezon City experience is really important because it sets the template for other cities. Unless local government units take on the cleaning of the esteros, it’s not going to happen,” said Lopez.

KBPIP has a track record of organizing three successful runs, namely the 2009 Philippine International Marathon: A Run for the Pasig River with an estimated 23,000 participants, the historic 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River that broke the Guinness World Record for the “most participants in a racing event” with 116,087 runners, and last year’s 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River was the largest foot race joined by 86,547 runners.

The 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River won a Bronze Anvil and an Award of Excellence at the 45th Anvil Awards given by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, while the Estero de Paco clean-up earned an Award of Merit from the 2010 Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.

Registration for the 09.30.2012 Run for the Pasig River is ongoing at SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, R.O.X, Chris Sports Festival Mall and Chris Sports Glorietta. Registration is until Saturday (Sept 29). Aside from the registration, there will also be merchandise available in the SM booths, in which part of the proceeds will also go to the river rehabilitation. It's been a decade since I attended one of the activity for children which was sponsored by Unicef, as I recall I think it's all about photography.  They wanted the recipients of the foundation, where I'm with during that time, to develop skills on photography because they believe on the eyes of the children.  Well I think I'm still considered as child back then.   And it was my first time to have some of my work displayed in an exhibit. (reminiscing mode)

I was a recipient of a foundation way way back during my school days and I know the feeling of being one of the sponsored child.  I was really grateful and thankful for those who have sponsored me because I was able to finished my schooling.

Anyway, that was just too much information about me. 

Last September 19, 2012, I attended the launching of Unicef's Auction for Action where they featured some works of different artist who whole heartedly donated the value of their works, and some on a percentage basis.  Well, as long as they join and help this kind of activity, it doesn't matter if it is in full or in partial.   Perhaps what matters most is their willingness to join this kind of advocacy.

As for my part. as a blogger I am willing to spread the word about this kind of activity and  to let people know that there are plenty of children in need.  To have a more detailed knowledge about this auction here's what it say about it.

For the second time, this online auction brings together more than seventy pieces of work from admired artists in design, furniture, art and jewelry for a good cause. Many people don't realize that UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary donations from individuals, companies and governments and the funds raised from the auction will go towards education, health and nutrition, protection and emergency programs for childred who are the hardest to reach and mos in need,” said UNICEF Country Representative Tomoo Hozumi.
