Filmmaker's Vision: Parallel Journeys, One Destiny
Writer-director Crisanto B. Aquino, winner of Best Screenplay in MMFF 2019, shares the inspiration behind 'My Future You': While stuck in his apartment, a conversation with a friend sparked the idea: “What if two people, bored and lonely, connect through a random chat—only to discover they live in different timelines?”
Direk Cris describes the journey of creating the film as one of resilience and patience. The project evolved and grew over the years. Finally, in 2024, everything aligned for it to be brought to life with the emerging Kapamilya love team.
He reflects on FranSeth being part of this project, “May plano talaga ang Diyos sa lahat. Alam niya ang right timing. Tiwala lang at patience. (God really has a plan for everything. He knows the right timing. Just trust and have patience.)
"This movie taught me to believe in my work, my worth, and my talent.”
This rom-fam drama also showcases Aquino’s meticulous attention to detail in aligning the two timelines. Working closely with production designer Ericson Navarro and director of photography Jeyow Evangelista, Direk Cris ensured that while 2009 and 2024 were distinct in tone and design, their visual parallels reflected the characters’ shared journey toward love and purpose.

April and Drei's intimate love scene to expect in AQ Prime's first BL Movie "Baka Sakali"
April and Drei's intimate love scene to expect in AQ Prime's first BL Movie "Baka Sakali" 2/19/2023 12:00:00 AM
AQ Prime has released their first BL movie, 'Baka Sakali,' which is now exclusively available for streaming on the AQ Prime app as their Valentine's Day offering. Love in every language is something that we should respect and I believe that everyone deserves to be happy for whatever life they choose. I think an over all idea of this movie is all about being love and being happy. This film features a non-traditional love story that conveys the message that love is boundless. Take note it's boundless.
The movie stars Drei Arias, Leandré Adams, Seon Quintos, and April 'Congratulations' Gustilo, and is directed by Bong Ramos. If you're familiar with the typical love story, the narrative one, you might not appreciate this much but what sets it apart are probably their almost real-life portrayal of the intimate scenes involving the lead actors Drei, Leandré, and April. And I can say that they are truly confident in displaying their bodies on the screen.
During the film's media conference, the actors, Drei and Leandré somehow disclosed their perspectives on love and gender. They were emphasizing on the importance of educating people about the diversity of love. They emphasized that love is not confined to gender and that their gender preferences do not impede their professional pursuits.
April 'Congratulations' Gustilo, who we've known as the Wowowin girl who shouts 'congratulations' in the show has finally returned to showbiz and this time took on a daring intimate scene with her co-actor, Drei. Since it was her first time doing the intimate sexy scene, she was asked if there was any arousal during the time their skins touch each other. April simply gave a laughed about the question, but his co-actor, Drei, responded that in playing that particular scene they are still humans but they are professionals.
Seon Quintos, who previously starred in "Mang Kanor," takes on a challenging gay role in this film.
Overall, AQ Prime's BL movie is worth watching. The message it conveys is that love knows no bounds, and this is a message that I want to instill in my family. The AQ Prime app is available for download on iOS, Android, and Huawei devices, and the movie can only be streamed exclusively on the AQ Prime app.
Mang Kanor! Sounds familiar? Well, it should be, because it was one of the sensational names during that time because of the scandal that went viral years ago. A video of an older man and young lady doing intercourse. It was uploaded online that spread throughout the world wide web. Stories about it being uploaded to the net were proven.
Allegedly, Mang Kanor was an ex-police officer who supports student girls with their school expenses which later on led to some videos that leaked to the entire web.
After that time, the name Mang Kanor was coined for a dirty old man dating younger ladies.
Few people really know what happened or what was the story. So, this 2023, AQ Prime Stream features this familiar story to give a platform to properly describe who Mang Kanor was and what had happened in his life, and the real story.
AQ Prime Stream features the story of Mang Kanor played by legendary actor, no less than REZ CORTEZ who had remarkably given justice to all the characters he has portrayed.
If you have seen most of his shows and films, you'll definitely give a thumbs up, because he is indeed a versatile actor. From kontrabida to sidekick, to many more roles, Rez surely nailed and concreted his acting skills in the industry.
Anyway, as for the movie created and filmed by AQ Prime, this was my very first encounter with such a film. Accordingly, the movie was provocative in a sense because the streaming platforms are not regulated by the MTRCB, but even though it is much needed to fully portray everything.
Singer, rapper, and composer, John Rendez is now taking a new challenge with a movie and playing a lead role. The film is an initial venture of NA Entertainment with a tentative title “Gun For Hire".
“It’s a big challenge for me to play the lead role as Josh,” said John. Also, he mentioned that the role is very challenging for him.
"There are some scenes you have to build your emotion towards your co- actors. At first, medyo mahirap, I don’t do drama things in the past, you know. But now, I have to concentrate to my character as Josh, iba’t ibang emotion ang kailangan kong ibigay in every scenes " John uttered.
John is grateful with his co-actors and with Direk Eric Joven. All out support from Bembol, Dexter, Irma , Beverly and Ian to John as they can sense that he has a potential as an actor, especially during dramatic scene.
“As an actor, we have to grow and learned from them the right motivation in every role you portray. For me, it’s a memorable experience working with the great actors and I am very thankful,” said John.
Other cast includes Bembol Roco, Dexter Doria, Irma Adlawan , Beverly Salviejo and Ian De Leon.
"I am very greatful to them because they give me pointers how to react in every dramatic scenes."
The film is an action/drama with a twist. Kenneth de Leon, Andre Soriano and Loy Oladive are also included in the cast and Directed by Eric Joven. Superstar and National Artist Nora Aunor has a special participation in the movie.
The scare season is one of the much awaited date of the year for people who would want to enjoy scaring or be scared. People get dressed in costumes to impress and to scare. That's Halloween, by the way.
So, if you're a fan of thrilling, suspenseful, and scary films, this is probably the season for you to enjoy and binge watch Horror themed movies.
We have plenty of options and platforms to choose from, but one streaming app brings something special, the AQ Prime, the new streaming app in the world wide web, gives its local and international viewers a different experience in viewing pleasure.
One of its latest horror film, KATOK, will excite your enthusiasm in Horror themed movies. This film stars Ara Mina, Soliman Cruz, Yñigo Delen, Joyce Javier, Mia Aquino and it is directed by Joven Tan.
So, what was KATOK movie about? Well, it's about the story of a so-called haunted house where Ara Mina who plays Romina, a caregiver will be serving an old man played by award winning veteran actor Soliman Cruz. The starting point is that for the past years, nobody stayed long in the house because they believe that the house is haunted. Before she can enter the room of the old man, she should knock thrice. As shown in the trailer, there's a haunting line that says "Maraming takot sa patay, pero mas nakaka-takot ang buhay. Maraming nata-takot sa bahay na ito, gusto nilang tuklasin kung totoo ang kwento. Sa tingin mo ba may KATOK ako?"
Remember the first movie of AQ Production, the Nelia, which had won an award? Well, I find it interesting that they actually had a play in mind with the theme of their movie releases. But anyway, it just came into mind because of the line "Sa tingin mo ba may KATOK ako?" If translated in English it asks if she has a loose knot on her head.
Launched as a sexy star, Ara Mina has proven that she's one versatile actress. She has done a lot of roles after moving out of the sexy scenes. According to Ara Mina, she loves doing horror films, she has done two Shake, Rattle and Roll fim in the past, so she really knows already how the process of creating this kind of film works. She also shared some instances that happened during their shoot. Ara and Direk Joven shared that they experienced some paranormal scenarios,"may isa kaming eksena na may biglang gumanun na kamay wala naman tao sa side na yun, lahat nasa side namin then may isa pa biglang nalaglag yung frame."
Aside from that scenes, there were also times during the shoot that Ara felt a little cold and heavy as if someone is on her back. Nonetheless, Direk Joven shared that the role was perfect for Ara and was meant for her.
Now that Ara is in a new level of her life, she manages to balance her life from being a mom, an actress, and a wife.
Ara also shared that she will have an upcoming film and a series very soon. Like any other actress, Ara wishes to do challenging roles and probably one on her bucket list is Rom-Com. Come to think of it, she hasn't done any Rom-Com film. And her aim as her leading man is of course, none other than Piolo Pascual. As what she said "para level up naman." Well, it is indeed a level when you are paired with "the Piolo Pascual."
Ara also recalls and shared her sexy star days and made a comparison with the present generation of sexy stars. If you have time you can check out one of the video interview as she gave advice to budding actresses who wish to stay longer in the entertainment industry.
KATOK premieres October 29, exclusively on AQ Prime. Download the app now! Available for download on Google Play and App store (for onlyP100 for three months), AQ Prime offers a variety of world-class Filipino motion pictures, concerts, international events, and shows that are a feast for the senses.

Kun Maupay Man It Panahon An Eye-opener Entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival
Entertainment 12/24/2021 06:24:00 PM
With the recent news about the devastation brought by typhoon Odette hitting the headlines, the subject of the of Metro Manila Film Festival entry film Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (which opens in theaters nationwide on December 25) is as timely as ever. The globally recognized drama film starring Charo Santos, Daniel Padilla and newcomer Rans Rifol, tells of the aftermath of 2013 supertyphoon Yolanda. Kun Maupay Man It Panahon (English title: Whether the Weather is Fine) is inspired by director Carlo Francisco Manatad’s own experience of looking for his family in Tacloban because he could not reach them for days.
Carlo recalls what happened very vividly. “I tried to contact them but all reception and communication lines were damaged, and seeing the news then, one would think no one would survive the storm. Luckily, I was able to hitch in a plane carrying relief goods. I was the only passenger. When I arrived, my hometown was beyond recognition. All roads, structures, and any form of landmarks were gone. Mountains of dead bodies were scattered everywhere.”
After what seemed to be the longest day of his life, Carlo managed to find his loved ones—all 16 of them plus their family dog—alive and well. When the young filmmaker returned to Manila to resume work (he was doing film editing at that time), he could not shake off what he went through.
Those days in Tacloban have now led to an outstanding full-length feature (Carlo’s first) starring an acclaimed actress-producer, today’s most celebrated matinee idol, and a rising actress. All thanks to the persistence of Carlo and his collaborators, and the backing of 11 companies from five different countries. Kun Maupay Man It Panahon is truly an international movie as it is produced by Cinematografica (Philippines), planc (Philippines), House on Fire (France)| iWantTFC (Philippines), Globe Studios (Philippines), Black Sheep (Philippines), Quantum Films (Philippines), AAND Company (Singapore), KawanKawan Media (Indonesia), Weydemann Bros. (Germany), and CMB Films (Philippines).
The film had its world premiere at the 2021 Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland where it took home the Youth Jury Prize, and got raves at the Toronto International Film Festival. Canadian film critic Henry Tan of Universal Cinema hailed it for its two major feats: 1) using the dialect of Waray as the dialogue, and 2) bringing attention to how the Philippines responded to the aftermath of Yolanda. He wrote, “Carlo Francisco Manatad has done a great job in bringing awareness of this historical typhoon event in the Philippines. Whether the Weather is Fine… reminds the audience about the humanity in coming together to help the survivors move forward from a devastation.”
Kun Maupay Man It Panahon has traveled to 25 international film fests in a span of five months. During that time, it also won Special Mention by the Jury at the Guanajuato International Film Festival in Mexico and Best Director at the London East Asia Film Festival in the UK.
Carlo says, “Our team is thankful for the chance to bring our movie home as it tackles something we must live with. I feel it is important to discuss the reality of natural calamities in this generation we are in. A lot has been said about Filipino resilience especially in the wake of disasters--- both natural and otherwise---to the point that it has become cliché.
"Major typhoons have been happening more often so Odette's occurrence comes as no surprise... I think I speak on behalf of my co-filmmakers when I say that climate change and disaster preparedness are the more urgent issues. These should be addressed by everyone and not be 'masked' or neglected by the sentimentality of resilience."
Have you heard of the phrase "history repeats itself?" Well, I know you have heard of this line. And also, there is a Filipino phrase "kung ano ang puno, yon ang bunga." So eventually, whatever tree that you planted should bear fruit of its kind.
One of the upcoming movie from Godfather Production, the "Anak Ng Macho Dancers," is somehow related to the lines I have mentioned earlier. From the title itself, it sure does repeat itself, and it goes down to the descendants. In short, it passes down the shortcomings of parents to the generation of the offsprings. This is the reality and issues of our society.
Miko Pasamonte, one of the supporting actors of the film and currently dubbed as the "New Male Sex Symbol," shared a deeper understanding of the characters during the online press conference with Miko. According to what he shared, these macho dancers are also human beings and we cannot judge them because they work as this kind of entertainer. Some of them chose to work like this, and it is because of different reasons, but basically, they all want to earn a living.
The upcoming film "Anak ng Macho Dancers" is a movie that will give a better understanding and the reasons why people tend to choose this kind of work. Get to know them in this movie!
The expected release date of the film will be this January 2021. This a film by Joel Lamangan and this is the much-awaited sequel to Lino Brocka's 1988 hit film.
