This was how seasoned film producer of Regal Entertainment Inc., Roselle Monteverde described the much-awaited and the only supernatural teen horror film in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017, “Haunted Forest” topbilled by Jane Oineza, Jameson Blake, Maris Ra al, Jon Lucas, Joey Marquez and Raymart Santiago. “If the kids of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s enjoyed different, uniquely-Regal iconic horror creatures like tha mananaggal, Aswang, tiyanak, pridyeder, and undi, this 2017 is the prfecttime for us to give the new generation of moviegoers- the millennials and zentennials, withtheir own uniquely-Regal horrific character, Sitsit!’, explained Monteverde, the daughter of Regal Matriarch, Mother Lily Monteverde.
Written by Jeps Gallon and under the direction of international award-winning director Ian Lorenos, “Haunted Forest” will revolve around the estranged relationship of Aris (Raymart Santiago) , apoliceman and her daughter, Nica (jane) and a mysterious elemental inside the haunted forest that would change their lives forever.
“While watching the film you will really be puzzled as to who or what kind of creature Sitsit really is. Is the creature formerly human? Is it a mythical creature? But one thing’s for sure, the moviegoers will discover the truth together with the film’s lead characters. It’s as if they altogheter entered the Haunted Forest and finally get to know Sitsit,” said Jeps.
Meanwhile, Direck Ian admitted that it’s a great challenge to work on a horror film that follows the long tradition and excellently crafted Regal Films. “Working with Regal, a pioneer in the film industry is both a pressuring and an honor for me, especially working on a horror film with them, which is Regal’s forte. The big challenge there is to crate a film that lives up to the Regal tradition as well as making my mark to it,” said Direk Ian.
“This Christmas, we’ll take the audience to an uncomfortable place, a realm where nothing is safe. Where everyone can be a victim or the suspect. We would also not just be creating fear, but also reflection our viewers’ lives – we’ll think about family, friendship, love and what really truly matters for us,” the director explained.
Aside from the Regal teen stars, also part of the “Haunted Forest” are seasoned actors Raymart Santiago and Joey Marquez. Completing the cast are Jerald Napoles, Betong Sumaya, Myrtle Sarrosa, Miho Nishida, Beverly Salviejo, Fiona Yang and Kelvin Miranda.
Will the dreaded “Sitsit” streghthen or is it off to destroy Aris and Nica family? Will Nica’s friendship with Mitch (Maris) , RJ (Jameson) and Andre (Jon) help out in the solving the mystery behind the haunted forest.
