Makhloufi was one of two speakers during the recently concluded online discussions entitled “Healthier/PH Sessions: Continuity of Care for a Healthier Philippines,” where she exchanged thoughtful dialogues and shared insights in front of an audience consisting of moms.

“As moms, we cannot afford to be sick or else who will take care of the family?” exclaimed Broadcast Journalist and the event’s moderator, Niña Corpuz. “A lot of us have to really be more proactive. It's really better to be informed and to be educated about potential health concerns so that we know that what we're doing is the best thing for our family.”

In response to the disruption that the pandemic has caused across the country’s healthcare system as well as a growing fear and apprehension towards seeking medical consultation for risk of contracting the virus, the Company has initiated programs in order to deliver better care.

How long have I been covering the SunPIOLOgy events? I really can't remember but there's one thing I'm sure I get to picture every event its ambassador, Piolo Pascual. Sun Life Virtual Run: Run anytime, anywhere A new event this year, the Sun Life Virtual Run is a long-distance race that participants may complete anytime, anywhere. Participants from different parts of the country may challenge themselves to complete an accumulated distance of 50 or 125 kilometers which can be spread over 30 days. This way, runners can pace themselves and freely strategize in accomplishing their target distance within the prescribed period. Progress is tracked using a GPS watch, a fitness band, a running app on a smartphone, or by taking a photo of the progress on the treadmill and submitting it via www.takbo.ph.

Registration for Sun Life Virtual Run is ongoing at www.sunpiology.com and will be open until October 14, 2019. The run period will be from October 15 to November 15, 2019.

Sun Life Cycle PH: Family bonding on wheels
 

Nurturing the Filipinos’ growing love for cycling, Sun Life Cycle PH is back to take cyclists on fun and exciting routes that will run from Bonifacio Global City to Pasay City. Participants of all fitness levels are welcome to join. Categories for the Sun Life Cycle PH are: Tricycle Ride (100 or 500 meters) designed for children ages two to five; Kids Ride (30-minute Solo or Family Ride) for children between the ages six to 15; Short Ride (20 kilometers) for participants 10 years old and above; and Long Ride (40 kilometers) for participants 14 years old and above. With partially closed roads and kid-friendly biking paths, the event can be a chance to bond with the entire family. It may also serve as an introduction to races for cycling enthusiasts.

Sun Life Resolution Run: Race to fight diabetes An exciting and energizing way to kick off Sun Life Philippines’ 125th anniversary in 2020, the Sun Life Resolution Run is a race that aims to get everyone into a healthy mindset as the year starts. Also hosted by Sun Life in select Asian countries, increasing awareness in diabetes prevention and management is one of the company’s advocacies that is especially crucial in the Philippines, as the disease has been declared as an epidemic in the country.



The Resolution Run will feature the “125 Xone,” where runners will pass through “xones” aligned with the diabetes prevention theme. Moreover, 125 lucky runners will also get to win electronic gift cards worth P1,250, which they can redeem in various partner stores.

In celebration of its 4th anniversary this July, Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc. (AC Health) launches Soar, a community family day for children diagnosed with cancer. The anniversary activity will be held on July 13, 2019 at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.

AC Health has partnered with Kythe Foundation, a non-government organization, which provides Child Life services and psychosocial support to children with chronic illnesses.

Over 60 cancer patients, together with their family members, and volunteers from the Ayala group will come together for an afternoon of kite flying, games, and entertainment performances.

AC Health President and CEO, Paolo Borromeo, said that the anniversary activity aims to encourage volunteerism across the Ayala group in support of AC Health’s vision of expanding access to healthcare.

“Cancer treatment is difficult for many Filipinos, and in this event, we want to take the time to celebrate family and community amidst such difficulties. It is also our way of connecting with patients and their families, so that we can make sure our cancer hospital is responsive to their needs.” Borromeo said.

Last month, AC Health announced its plan to build a 100-bed, comprehensive cancer hospital in Metro Manila, with the goal of providing high-quality cancer care services, at a more affordable price. Cancer is now the third leading cause of death in the Philippines.

Soar is also in line with Ayala Corporation’s 185th year celebration.

It's a back to back health talk weekend programs at GMA News TV teamed up with the Department Of Health (DOH). 49th PHA Annual Convention & Scientific Meeting, Launching of Sneakers Friday, “Sitting is the new smoking.”

The simplest guideline for all of us would have to be, “Sit less and move more, ” according to close to 2,000-member Philippine Heart Association (PHA) and the husband and wife tandem of fitness gurus, Jim and Toni Saret.

Yes, there’s a direct relationship between time spent sitting and your risk of early mortality of any cause. As your total sitting time increases, so does your risk of an early death.

Sitting for around eight hours a day at the workplace increases the risk of contracting heart disease, cancer and diabetes by 40 percent. Actually, it can cause killer legs, too.

Majority of the world population is in the working age-group. This group are always on the computer. Glued on their seats for eight hours, they lead sedentary lifestyles, while facing different kinds of stress which leads to unhealthy eating (stress eating) and lifestyle.
