Family members will always support each other whatever path they take, each and one will surely take time to help everyone. It's family first!

One interesting example is the father and son tag team of Sen. JV Ejercito and Jose Emilio. A proof that they value every member of their family because they really assist each other. The act of Jose Emilio representing him during the birthday celebration of Sen Win Gatchalian is just one of them.

During the event, Emilio delivered a speech concerning his father's devotion to public service and explained further more the importance of the Universal Health Care Act.

This is what you call a father and son tandem. They will surely support each other, especially when there are people in need. Valuing what is valuable. 

Yes, it was early this year that I was diagnosed having a myoma and an ovarian cyst. When I first heard it from my ob-gyn I was shocked. Then questions lingers at the back of my head like 'why me?' 'what will happen to me and my family?' I was one of those information that you wouldn't want to hear from your doctor. But it happened and it made my head drowned with questions and worries.

Way back before I got pregnant with our first born, I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst at my right ovary, while on my left was a polycystic ovary. According to my ob-gyn, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS is a condition in which a woman's level of sex hormones, the estrogen and progesterone are out of balance. That was the reason why I wasn't able to get pregnant after two years of marriage.

Dr. Gwendolyn Yaneza with a clinic at Well of Life in Fairview and she is also affiliated with FEU, Fairview General and Miguel Malvar Hospital is my Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB-GYN). Year 2006, when she prescribed me with pills called Diane. After months of taking the pills she afterwards gave me Clomid plus a closed monitoring with her to correct my hormonal imbalance. After a few months, finally I got pregnant. Then I gave birth to my 1st born. It was year 2007 after four years my youngest son came.

Last December 2016, I felt something really hurts under  my lower abdomen. My suspicion was my C Section's wound. I was really at pain and I even can't move much. So, after new year and exactly January 3 I decided to visit my ob-gyn for a check-up. During the check up process and screening I was really nervous and there were a lot of things running into my head. Dr. Yaneza told me that my right ovary is very clear. This was the one with the ovarian cyst before I gave birth to my 1st born.  Then she followed-up with the status of my left ovary, it has an ovarian cyst that is already 1CM. It was most likely with the previously screen ovarian cyst on my right. According to Dra. Yaneza, the cyst is still manageable and can be addressed with some prescribed medicines. Like what she said before once this ovarian cyst reached a 5CM size mark that is the time that it is needed to be surgically removed. I was relieved with this news.

The shocking part of my story was when Dra. Yaneza mentioned that I have Myoma.  That really makes me sad. I have heard a lot of stories about myoma. There's no medicine that can cure it and worse it will be there inside your uterus unless it will be surgically remove. The good thing is that Dra. Yaneza comforted me with the news that it was still small that can be manage. Just like the cyst it needs to be 5CM and above before resorting to surgical procedure of removing it. We just hoped that the myoma won't grow fast. I really felt weak at that moment. I have MYOMA and OVARIAN CYST at the same time.

I was questioning. Why me? Why did this happened to me? There were lots of questions, I was super stress, and there were so many things that I want to do. But what made me stop thinking the bad side was my family. Yes, I love my family and I want to be with them at all times. It is really hard to think of beautiful things when you're down with such a shocking news, but life must go on. I'll fight and I'll continue to pray to God to heal me from this ailment.


Just like before with my ovarian cyst, Dra. Yaneza gave pills to treat it. I was instructed to took the medicine for 10 days and after a month is the check-up. This is to closely monitor the progress of the cyst and the myoma. February 2, was my 2nd check-up. Things came worse, my ovarian cyst grew to 2.4 cm while the myoma to 1.2 cm.


The great news is that my ob-gyn was there to boost me up and assure that there's still options that we can take. So, she gave me another medication. This time it was an injectible medicine that will put me into a stage of "temporary menopausal stage", meaning I won't have my menstruation for atleast 3 months and there's also the possibility that my myoma won't grow. So I took my chances and pray hard to God to guide me and heal me for my family. I also believed that God lead me to Dra. Yaneza and I know that she will take care of me. She's been my ob-gyn on my two times of giving birth and this is not the first time that she will treat me on woman reproductive organ issue.

It was May 3, I went to my OB and believing that God healed me already. There were two news after the ultrasound, the good and the bad. The good news was I don't have ovarian cyst anymore. Praise God, I healed. I thankful to God, to my OB and to my family who prayed for me too. But the not so good news is that my myoma grow from 1.2 cm to 1.3 cm. Still, there's a good news about it because according to Dra., the myoma will stay there inside my uterus but  it does not grow that fast. My next visit to her is after a year to monitor the growth.

I'm happy because I do not have Ovarian Cyst anymore and hopefully it will not go back again. Sad, because I still have myoma. There were some sudden pain in my lower abdomen but it is tolerable.

Life must go on, I am a full time mom and I enjoy taking care of my kids and my hubby. I am a blogger, enjoying events and the company of my co-bloggers. Hoping to go back to work and hopefully this year. I do not know yet when will it be. Right now, I just want to be with my loved ones and enjoy the moment.

Few weeks ago, Power Wives Club which consists of spouses of seafarers were invited at Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Bagtikan St., Makati City to educate and learn more about Cervical Cancer. I am so thankful that I had an opportunity to cover this kind of event that gives me a lot of information about Cervical Cancer that mommies like me is prone of.
The event was hosted by Ms. Suzi Entrata and as part of the event attendees were taught on how to wrap their gifts and also how to put on make up. As we all know it's the holiday season and gift wrapping is now a must because of the holiday season. This will be of big help for moms like me who is busy now in preparing gifts for their loved ones. We can now wrap gifts creatively. On the other hand, looking beautifully is also a must and make ups help cover that blemishes or wrinkles. For sure we'll be the star of that gatherings. Mommies are thrifty right? This make up session is a big help for moms as they share tips on putting on make ups. A do-it-yourself move without the fuss and hassle of going to the parlor. A thrifty move for us mommies.

Power Over Cervical Cancer

Our culture celebrates our women as selfless and who always put their families’ interest ahead of their own. While selflessness is naturally an asset, we also want to imbibe to our beloved women the values of resilience, self-confidence and self-appreciation as we envision them to realize the fullness of their womanhood.

The Power Wives

The key thrust of GSK’s 2015 cervical cancer awareness campaign, Power Over Cervical Cancer, revolves around empowering women when it comes to preventing cervical cancer.

To further advance this advocacy to embrace more women across all demographics, the pioneering Power Wives will be the Seafarers’ Wives, who will undergo a program that will include sessions on personality development, image building, personal resilience, financial management and self-care.

To date, there are about 400,000 Filipino seafarers deployed who render themselves and their families at greater risk for several diseases and infections due to their working conditions. While they are striving for financial stability as their idea of a bright future, GSK wants to bring into their consciousness the value of preventive health care.

Secure the Future

On a national scale, Filipino seafarers on board international fleets have greatly contributed to our social economic progress. Their foreign exchange remittances grow annually, notwithstanding that our seafarers comprise only 5 percent of the total OFWs working abroad.
In 2014, their contributions amounted to USD5.6billion out of the USD24.3 billion dollars aggregate OFW remittances or more than 20 percent thereof. Currently, we are also ranked number 4 among the biggest shipbuilders in the world.

Shipping clearly moves the world. The underlying truth is that Filipino seafarers play a major role in the shipping industry as a whole, with 1 out of 4 seafarers on board international vessels being Filipinos. This means they comprise 25 percent of the total global maritime professionals in the world.

“The significance of the Philippine maritime industry transcends both the global and national arena. Undeniably, 90 percent of world trade is still reliant on international shipping. This means that almost all the food we eat, clothes we wear, the things we buy, use, own, in one way or another, were shipped on board vessels before they got to us,” stated Capt. Ronald SJ Enrile, Senior Vice-President Maritime Management of Philippine Transmarine Corporation, the country’s biggest shipping-employment agency.

Securing the OFW families’ future is important. The future should not only mean financial stability but also health and wellness among the family members. Therefore, the need for health checkups and vaccination becomes more imperative.

Importance of early protection
Cervical cancer is a major problem for Filipino women: it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among Filipinas, with seven dying of the dreaded disease every single day. What’s more worrying is that 2 in 3 Filipinas diagnosed with cervical cancer may die within five years, or up to 2,832 women dying in a year. In its early stage, it may have no signs or symptoms.

Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells develop and spread in the cervix, the entrance between the vagina and the uterus. The human papillomavirus (HPV), a very common virus, is the necessary cause of cervical cancer. It has been shown that 99.7 percent of cervical cancer patients are positive for HPV infection. It is also estimated that up to 80 percent of women will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives.

While HPV is primarily transmitted via sexual intercourse, skin-to-skin genital contact is also a recognized mode of transmissionv. Beyond regular consultations and pap smears by your doctor, vaccines that protect against cancer-causing HPV are also now readily available.
The incidence of cancer-causing HPV infection is actually highest at the young ages of 15-19. This is why the World Health Organization Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (WHO-SAGE) on Immunization reiterates the importance of getting young girls protected through HPV immunization before their first exposure to HPV (i.e. before sexual contact), as young as 9 years old.

Older women are just as susceptible. The risk of persistent infection with cancer-causing HPV (which is necessary for cervical cancer to develop) increases with age, and is highest when a woman is over 66 years old. Vaccination remains to be recommended for older women who did not receive it at an earlier age. However, screening continues to be encouraged among older women as a matter of precaution.

Prevention is better than cure, I will definitely let my loved ones like my mother, my titas and my friends encourage them about the big help of Vaccination against Cervical Cancer. I'll share what I've learned on this event.

Because of this, I will schedule a to visit my OB-gyne and that's very soon. Vaccination against Cervical Cancer is now one of my priority for my self and for my family.
