I know Star Wars since I was a kid because I often hear it during those days but I'm not actually an avid fan, though it is intriguing enough for me I know have anyone to watch it with me not until I met my hubby who is a movie enthusiast. He even got a VCD copy of the six Star Wars movies. It seems that the force is strong in him, hahaha. Anyway, thanks to Gateway mall with its newest theater the Dolby Atmos Cinema I was able to watch the current movie of Star Wars and what's even great is that I watched it together with my hubby. Since this is the launch of the biggest Dolby Atmos Cinema in the country located at Gateway mall it is just high right that one of one the epic film is played in it.

So what's with this Dolby Atmos? It features a revolutionary audio platform that creates powerful, moving audio using audio object and overhead speakers, Gateway Mall's Dolby Atmos Cinema boasts of sounds that come from all directions, the dialogue and music of the onscreen story move all around the audience in three-dimensional space, transporting them into the scenes and putting them in the middle of the action. Definitely the most suitable venue for the much-awaited movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Compared to regular theaters, Dolby Atmos Cinema has the most number of speakers with a 53.5 sound system (53 individuals surround channels and 5 subwoofers). Each speaker is powered independently and gets its own separate audio feed. In effect, the movement of every sound in the scene is reproduced in all three dimensions.

The Dolby Atmos Technology gives content creators unprecedented control of the placement and movement of sound within the movie theater. Sounds can be placed and moved anywhere in the cinema's three dimensional space. The Dolby Atmos Cinema processor then determines which of a cinema's huge array of front, back, side and overhead speakers it will use to recreate this lifelike movement. Sounds are coming from all directions and it was just like you're within the scene.

Here's a little bit of information about the latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is the seventh installment in the Star Wars film series and the first to be directed by J.J. Abrams. Set around 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the sequel follows the adventures of new lead characters Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) as they join forces with original characters Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to fight Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his broadsword lightsaber. It's the new world of sound that let's you "hear the whole picture".  For a mom like me who seldom went to cinemas this is really great.

Dolby Atmos is the revolutionary sound technology that is the current world class standard of sound technology, last July 11 this technology was debuted at the Greenhills Cinemas 6, 7 and 8 at the new Promenade at the Greenhills Shopping Center.

Present during the inauguration of the new cinemas and also the celebration of the launch of the Dolby Atmos in the Philippines were Mayor Guia Gomez of the City of San Juan, Senator Loren Legarda, Senator JV Ejercito and Mrs. Marga Ortigas of the Ortigas & Company Limited Partnership who cut the ceremonial ribbon.

One of the highlight of the launch celebration was the unveiling of a large-sized mural fashioned from metal by National Artist for the visual Arts Benedicto Cabrera (Bencab) entitled 8 Movements.  It is Bencab's largest mural so far and his first in metal.

Senator Grace Llamanzares Poe, former MTRCB chairperson and daughter of the King of the Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe, Jr. assisted Bencab during the unveiling.  Commission by Music Museum Group, Inc. and Greenhills Cinemas president Precy M. Florentino, the mural will adorn the lobby of the new cinemas.

According to Ms. Precy Florentino, "the elegant movie theater is a throwback to the old days of cinema when movie theaters had murals and art pieces, and movie goers had a grand feeling when going to the movies.  This is the reason why we brought the finest art in to the theater and why the three new cinemas are fitted with the state of the art Dolby Atmos technology."

As of now, the Greenhills Cinemas is the first ever cinema in the Philippines to show movies in Dolby Atmos.  Paolo Mendoza, Vice PResident of the Music Museum Group, Inc. and General Manager of Greenhills Cinemas commented "the experience is exciting and powerful - something that has never been experienced before in cinema viewing."


It also interesting to note that Dobly Atmos was given the coveted Technical Achievement Award for Post Production by the Cinema Audio Society.   It was great that GrabTechDude.com was also one of the few people who first experienced the extraordinary surround sound of the Dobly Atmos.  Seeing the movie Pacific Rim which is a science fiction monster filled film directed by Benicio del Toro fills the entire cinema with great sound and as if we were part of the movie itself.
