Balitanghali, the longest-running noon-time newscast on Philippine free TV, continues to deliver truthful, timely, and relevant news to viewers as it celebrates its 19th anniversary this November.

Since 2005, Balitanghali has become a significant part of Filipinos’ lives every lunch time – “kumpletos rekados ang pananghalian ninyo sa Balitanghali…19 taon n’yo nang kasalo.”

The Office of the Ombudsman Visayas has imposed a one-year suspension on the Municipal Budget Officer of the Town of Larena in Siquijor, along with five other members of the (BAC) from the same municipality.

This decision, issued on September 4, 2024, stems from a complaint submitted online by Darel Ybanez to the Office of former President Rodrigo Duterte via the Presidential Complaint Center on January 9, 2022. The letter outlines various alleged irregularities occurring in the Town of Larena, including claims of improper procurement practices involving rice from Ronkz System Solutions, despite the supplier being deemed eligible.

Ronkz System Solutions is involved in the sales of school and office supplies. Nevertheless, they were awarded a contract with an approved budget of Php198,000 in december 2018. According to Ybanez, her mother was among those who received rice from the local government unit (lgu). Senior citizens in the community were supposed to receive a sack of rice weighing 50 kilos; however, only five kilos were distributed.

Furthermore, the LGU was also responsible for distributing wheelchairs to those in need. Surprisingly, those who received assistance were given walkers instead of wheelchairs. This prompted ybanez to gather the courage to file a complaint to address the irregularities occurring in their community.

The respondents include Clifford Quillicot - Municipal Budget Officer, Rito B. Abapo - Municipal Planning and Development Officer/BAC Vice Chairman, Jorge A. Arcaya - Municipal Agriculturist/BAC Chairman, Cristino C. Sister Jr. - Municipal Engineer/BAC Member, Ellson A. Calibo Jr. - ICO Municipal Treasurer/BAC Member, and Michael P. Araya - BAC Technical Working Group Member. Former Larena Mayor Dean Samson Villa's case is now being investigated via Sandiganbayan.

The news of Guo Hua Ping’s arrest in Indonesia, also known as Alice Guo, is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to combat the corruption she is involved in. Her escape and evasion from accountability here in the Philippines clearly demonstrate a blatant attempt to avoid justice.

We will closely monitor the progress of the investigation to ensure that every aspect of this case is thoroughly examined and clarified. It is essential that the full story of corruption is uncovered, the entire truth revealed without any cover-up, and all those involved identified so that appropriate actions and penalties can be imposed for any violations of the law—whether it’s illegal activities related to POGOs such as human trafficking, identity theft, money laundering, or other illicit transactions.

 JUST BE GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO! It's a simple message but hits the mark right at the bullseye. For me, this message of the newly appointed Western Visayas Police Regional Director Rene Pamuspusan does not only encourages the uniformed personnel but also others who works in different line of industry. Like any work we should be good at what we do and strives to be better if not the best.

Regional Director Pamuspusan unveiled his blueprint of reforms to pursue programs of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the press conference at Camp Delgado in Fort San Pedro, Iloilo City earlier today, July 17.

“To our personnel in region 6, you have proven that you are good at what you do as a policeman and I know that you are prepared to face the next challenge. Attend well to your task and just be good at it,” this is what Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) Chief Pamuspusan mentioned as he announced his programs for the PRO 6 during the press conference.


During his term as regional director, the regional police will carry out sustained reformation, internal cleansing through mentoring and developing leaders at all levels, and pro-active and smart policing.

“We have an achieving and soaring Police Regional Office 6. This office has proven that it is on the right path towards the accomplishment of the PNP’s strategic direction – in terms of performance and in terms of reformation. And I fully commit to sustain the gains as we continue to raise the bar of police service by strengthening our commitment in pursuing the programs of the PNP,” he said.

According to PRO 6 Chief Pamuspusan, this sustained reformation will benefit PRO 6 “through the continuous efforts in addressing the gaps on Human Resource, Infrastructure and Equipment; as well as bringing the police of Western Visayas closer to our institutional partners.”

Just like in most company's leadership and mentoring system, PRO 6 Chief Pamuspusan will also push the mentoring to develop regional personnel to become leaders in their own right. I remember during my corporate days, I'm always included in their development programs where I have learned a lot.  So, if this kind of system will be implemented in the line of uniformed personnel it will not only be good but better.

“And this will be done through the ‘squad system’ which is developing a cohesive and nurturing relations among our personnel as we group them so that they could look after each other,” he said, adding that this will be done through constant dialogues with subordinates and giving trainings and seminars for their improvement.
The new PRO 6 chief will also implement pro-active and smart policing by giving emphasis on the use of technology in crime prevention and law enforcement operations, saying that “we see that these technologies will help us a lot as we go harder on illegal drugs and other forms of criminality.”

Here are the shortlisted names and categories they are with. Khaye Celine Maggay (youth), Fancisca Tumampil (senior citizenz), Fortunato Januto (overseas Filipino workers, (Rodrigo Roble Jr. (lingkod bayan), Zaldy Bueno (professionals), (manggagawang pinoy), Mark David Cerezo ( entrepreneurs), Alfred Santos (employees) Jayson Dela Fuente (persons with disabilities), and Leovy John Terrado (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community) will each receive P50,00 and will go through a panel interview to determine this year's Happiest Pinoy Grand Winner who will take home P1 million tax-free.

CCTV Patrol features photos and videos about anything significant, remarkable, or bizarre in their communities captured using mounted close-circuit television (CCTV) camera, cellphones and other gadgets and sent in by them.

TV Patrol anchor Kabayan Noli De Castro said a huge chunk of the videos they receive and report in the newscast depict crimes that need police intervention. The team of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs reporters will also see to it that each criminal incident aired in the segment will be probed and monitored until the perpetrators face justice.

"What's important is the media and citizens can take part and not simply complain about the crime situation in the country. This time. we aid the police authorities in solving crimes by being vigilant and alert", said Kabayan.


To date, ordinary people's contributions to "CCTV Patrol" have led to some of the biggest stories that hit the headlines and revolutionized broadcast journalism in terms of reaching audiences and giving them the opportunity to influence and contribute to the news cycle.

One of the most notable videos shown in ‘CCTV Patrol’ was the robbery of alleged fugitives in a 7-Eleven convenience store in Manila and a LBC outlet in Parañaque. After the airing of Zyann Ambrosio’s report in September, the police had received numerous text messages detailing information about the suspects, which ‘TV Patrol” announced through a follow-up report.

A CCTV footage of several men kicking and pointing a gun at a man inside his own home also went viral online after it was aired on ‘CCTV Patrol’ in August. Netizens heavily discussed the video and slammed authorities for their supposed in action on the incident that occurred in April. Following the ‘CCTV Patrol’ report, the police had immediately identified the suspects to be members of the notorious ‘akyat-bahay gang’ and were later captured.

The police have also launched a manhunt for the suspects involved in the shooting and robbery of an ABS-CBN account executive and his companion in Mandaluyong based on a ‘CCTV Patrol’ report of a footage of the surveillance camera footage set up at the site of the incident.

Due to the success of the segment, Kabayan stressed the importance of the continued involvement of Bayan Patrollers and citizens to uncovering newsworthy events Filipinos need to know. “I encourage everyone to make good use of their cellphones and gadgets instead of recording trivial videos and forwarding gossip. This is a big help. The police no longer have excuses in not being able to arrest criminals identified in a footage,” he said.


Aside from airing videos that show the stealing of a motorcycle, side mirrors of a vehicle, sacks of rice, medical supplies, and cellphones, ‘CCTV Patrol’ has also broadcast footages of gruesome crimes such as the slaying of a DENR official in Isabela and the brutal killing of a doctor in Bacolod by two young men. Several CCTV reports have also been used as proof in police investigations involving the kidnapping of infants in a hospital and a grocery store.

Also serving as warning to commuters was a video filmed by a Bayan Patroller using his cellphone showing a man scouring the bag of a sleeping passenger. The said deed was described by police authorities as a method employed by a certain ‘eskoba gang’ in air-conditioned buses.


The ‘CCTV Patrol’ segment not only showcases videos of crime but also of accidents including the collision of a bus and a van in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, a CCTV footage of a car smashing a van parked along a street, and the rescue the driver who was stuck in a van after a rollover.
