In 2020, the Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc (BAFI), a non-stock, non-profit foundation was the first to launch a new educational program called MIND S-COOL TV (MSC TV), amidst the pandemic. MSC TV found a new broadcast home in Cignal, which has the largest reach across the country in terms of subscribers.

MSC TV Season 1 dealt with the most fundamental questions about nature. When it aired in Cignal, the feedback has been so wonderful and highly encouraging as it showed that MSC TV was able to reach thousands of families from all walks of life across the country!

MIND S-COOL TV features “connected learning” – cutting across content in the sciences and the arts and relates concepts, framing it as genuine adventures to help us have an even better normal. They strongly resonate with lessons in the K-12 curriculum but even more, they are updated and delivered in ways using techniques that have been tried and tested in “inspired learning” which museums and performing centers work on and master, to deliver to its audiences.

For Season 2, with the wondrous space in The Mind Museum as the base, MSC T Season 2 also made full use of digitally enhanced graphics to reinforce the power of our minds to travel across time and places around the world!

Datu Puti just kicked off 2021 by making history in setting a new Guinness World Records™ title for the most people dipping food into vinegar online simultaneously.

On January 24, the brand hosted a large-scale online meeting via Zoom, dubbed as the Datu Puti Mukhasim Nation World Record Day, where nearly 200 “Ka-Datus” joined the attempt to set a new Guinness World Records™ title. Hosted by Sam YG, the official title attempt was led by Datu Puti’s celebrity Sukambassadors Tita Krissy Achino, Eric “Eruption” Tai, and Maymay Entrata.

Participants were divided into six Tribo Breakout Rooms, namely Tribo Sukang Puti facilitated by JC Tevez, Tribo Sukang Sinamak with Maymay Entrata and Cara Eriguel, Tribo Pinoy Spice headed by Eric “Eruption” Tai, Tribo Sukang Tagalog with Tita Krissy Achino, Tribo Sukang Iloko with Show Suzuki, and Tribo Spiced Vinegar led by Nikki Viola.

The breakout rooms ensured that Guinness World Records™ official adjudicator Brian Sobel, who joined the call all the way from Australia, and six other independent witnesses were able to monitor and check if all the guidelines of the attempt were followed.

At the sound of the Sawsaw Signal, all Ka-Datus and Sukambassadors simultaneously showed their best “Sawsaw-Tikim-Mukhasim” move on camera. Participants simultaneously dipped their choice of food into their favorite Datu Puti Vinegar before tasting its naturally fermented goodness that brings out the best Mukhasim reaction.

I hope that this new record will not only make Datu Puti and the Ka-Datu’s proud of their achievement, but also help inspire more people in your country and all over the world to explore their own limitless possibilities.” said Sobel.

Not only is this feat remarkable for gathering a large number of participants online, but also because of its symbolism. At a time when we are unable to gather physically, the Filipino resilience shines through by finding ways and means to celebrate as a community, even at a distance.

In light of this, NutriAsia and Papa forged a partnership with both Marylindbert International and the Department of Education (DepEd) for school year 2020-2021, the Pinggang Pinoy Pina-Sweet Sarap Comprehensive School Program. It is a special module that teaches the importance of having the right diet and nutrition. Powered by Papa Banana Catsup and Papa Spaghetti Pack, the program aims to educate Grade 1 and 2 Filipino students about how keeping a good diet with the right nutrition leads to proper and healthy development.

The class module is the first in the three-stage Pinggang Pinoy program. The second stage will involve cooking demonstrations and activities that will show students and parents how to prepare healthy snacks using Papa products. The final stage will involve a cooking contest that will challenge students, teachers and parents to create unique recipes using Papa Banana Catsup and Papa Spaghetti Pack.

Eco-friendly and zero-waste management, a campaign that helps not only the environment but also teaches patrons to be mindful of the waste and learn to conserve. And for this campaign, NutriAsia, the leading condiments manufacturer and distributor in the Philippines, was named as a Bronze Stevie® Award winner at the 17th Annual International Business Awards®.

The International Business Awards are the world’s premier business awards program. All individuals and organizations worldwide – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small - are eligible to submit nominations. The 2020 IBAs received entries from organizations in 63 nations and territories.

More than 3,800 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories, including Company of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Startup of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year, and Executive of the Year, among others. This year’s competition also featured a number of free-to-enter categories to recognize organizations’ and individuals’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

NutriAsia entered its 2019 “Bring Your Own Bote” (BYOB) Campaign under the competition’s Corporate Responsibility Communications or PR Campaign/Program of the Year category. Launched on July 30, 2019, it pushed the company’s zero-waste advocacy by launching BYOB Stores in Metro Manila.

The first store was established at The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City. Explicitly designed to be an eco-friendly space, the BYOB Store was half-built with walls made of glass, so the public can see the refill process, while the other half is made out of eco-bricks which include shredded used plastic as a component.

Serving as both a refilling and selling station, the BYOB Store encouraged consumers to bring their own reusable containers to stock up on their condiments such as vinegar, soy sauce, catsup, and cooking oil. All products were sold at prices lower than packaged counterparts in the market. BYOB also served as a drop-off point for recyclable plastics, which will be repurposed into school furnishings for its beneficiary school.

The first BYOB Store was originally slated to end its operations in September 2019, but due to popular demand, it became a permanent set-up on the location and has since been officially made into the first

NutriAsia BYOB branch. Following social distancing protocols for COVID-19 prevention, the NutriAsia BYOB Store in BGC has added new innovations to better serve customers during this time. An online order form via https://cdn.jotfor.ms/nai.byob/orderform as well as cashless payments via GCash and BPI are currently in place to reduce physical contact during transactions.

In February 2020, a second branch in Quezon City was set up in partnership with the local government unit (LGU).

So far, as of March 2020, the BYOB campaign has already refilled more than 2,000 bottles of condiments and collected 1,000 kilos of plastics for repurposing. NutriAsia says it is receiving more inquiries from other local government units and private entities that want to put up their own BYOB stores.

As the ongoing COVID-19 crisis will prevent winners from receiving their awards on stage during a traditional gala IBA banquet, winners will be celebrated instead during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, 1 December.

In line with the needs of the new normal, NutriAsia modified and improved their popular refill service to ensure customers are safe and healthy.

Here’s how customers can refill at the BYOB store:
1. Customers will order their desired NutriAsia products by filling out an online order and waiver form.
2. Once completed, they will receive a confirmation via e-mail which they need to show at the store.
3. Once they show the confirmation e-mail, their clean and dry bottles will be sterilized, refilled, and weighed.
4. After weighing, they can pay for their purchase online via GCash or BPI.

On top of the refilling service, customers without available reusable bottles can also buy a new 500 ml glass bottle for P20, which is sterilized beforehand ready to be refilled with their favorite NutriAsia products.

Quarantine Creativity: 19-year-old Thea Sophia Disabelle only had a bottle of Silver Swan Soy Sauce, large plate, and a limitless imagination to create unique works of art.

As the quarantine keeps everyone at home for their safety, many young Filipinos spend their time honing their skills and creativity, finding ways to express themselves. With all this free time on their hands, there are those who even go the extra mile when it comes to being creative.

This was certainly the case for 19-year-old communication student Thea Sophia Disabelle, from Bantayan Island, Cebu, who stirred buzz on the internet after creating art not just through traditional mediums, but also using a medium no one thinks could be used for art: soy sauce. Yes, the very same soy sauce you ordinarily see in kitchens at home.

“It all started when I poured a little amount of soy sauce into a saucer, since I needed it for my fried fish,” said Thea, who made her first soy sauce artwork back in March using Silver Swan Soy Sauce, a staple in their pantry. “After that, I paused for three seconds while staring at it—something was beautifully formed. After I had my breakfast that day, I asked myself, ‘Why not make art using soy sauce?’”

Inspiring young Filipino creatives


As some artists find new ways to make breathtaking art during the quarantine using everyday items, Thea believes that there’s really no limit to what anyone can create as long as they keep trying. She herself wants to pursue a fine arts course and eventually turn her hobby into her life’s work.

“I encourage them to be creative and make use of their time through art,” she says. “You don't need expensive art materials—you just have to go to your kitchen, get some stuff and make it your masterpiece. It's just a matter of creativity, dedication and willingness to learn something new. You just have to be creative in making nothing into something. That's how art works.”

As a token of recognition for Thea’s astounding creativity and resourcefulness, NutriAsia, makers of Silver Swan will be sending her and her family more of their products for their use—whether it’s for their food or for more of Thea’s art.

Giving thanks to all the frontliners as we go through this challenging times is an inspiring initiative to keep the flame of hope and strength goes on. Launched by Batang NutriAsia, an in-house summer program for children of NutriAsia employees, the Salamat BayaNAI program saw 3,800 face shields assembled and donated to NutriAsia merchandisers and employees for their protection. Despite the risks, these merchandisers served as the company’s front line in ensuring supermarkets and grocery stores remain stocked with NutriAsia products throughout the community quarantine, while employees from departments such as Human Resources, Total Quality Management, R&D, and Supply Chain also continued to report to work on site, making sure that all operations remained consistent throughout the situation.

Face shields were chosen for both their practicality and the protection they impart against COVID-19 and other diseases.

The program also aims to give these employees emotional support, as the Batang NutriAsia kids added heartwarming handwritten thank-you notes to the frontliners.

“We want these frontliners to know that their work is appreciated, and their bravery is not forgotten,” said Sabine Flaminiano, Salamat BayaNAI project lead and a Batang NutriAsia graduate in her own right.

“Seeing the reactions of the store merchandisers and employees as they received our care packages was memorable—as their hard work and sacrifice are valued and recognized, this had brought big smiles and a boost to their morale.”
