Movie Review: “Satan's Slaves” – Indonesian Horror Movie at Its Scariest

I seldom watch Horror films. It's either I'm curious or I was just drag to watch movie by my friends. I'm not really a fan of horror films and I'm always scared when there's a film like this. But on this particular movie, "Satans Salves" I was encouraged to watch it together with my friends.
When I heard the title "Satan's Slaves" I was really scared and not sure if I'll watch it or not because the title says it already. Indeed, it was literally scary even at the beginning of the movie. Watch it and you'll understand why? I was hooked or rather got curious about the movie because you'll be wondering what's the reason behind and what's going to happen. Most of the time when the scary part comes I would put my shoal to cover my face. The sound effect gives terrible feelings, then you'll realize that some of the scene is just a sounds there's no need to be scared of. Though, there are scenes that are still frightening. Great that I'm with my BFF when I watched this movie, I'm just calling her name when scary scenes are approaching to lessen the nervousness. Very Ironic, the way I call my Friend's name, is just the way the mother calling his son "Tony". There was an instance that I shouted because I was frightened.
Congrats to all the people who created this movie and yes, it is truly a scary movie I watched in my life so far. I realized that satan will do the best just to get someone, never thought that beautiful face and innocent smile can sometimes full and deceived you.
It has been thirty five (35) years since the original cult-classic, Satan’s Slave was released in 1982.Director Joko Anwar was mesmerized and completely terrified by it upon sneaking up in a theatre to watch it when he was a kid. He has been lobbying Rapi Films to give him the directing duties if ever they decide to remake it. Fortunately for him, they did.
The original version, released in 1980, still haunts the nightmares of many Indonesians today. The film, a low-budget spectacle directed by Sisworo Gautama Putra, is still one of the best of the bloody, gruesome, and insane Indonesian exploitation movies made by production houses like Rapi Films.
The film has been called “the scariest Indonesian horror film of all time,” “scary as sh*t” and “another gem of horror” from various websites. Truly, Satan’s Slaves will be marked as one of the most unforgettable horror movie experience once seen.
Pengabdi Setan was a mashup of exorcism, zombie, and morality horror. In the film, a mother returns to her home to pick up her children after her death from a strange illness that she suffered for three years.
Definitely it is one memorable experience if you watch it with your loved ones or with your friends and BFF. To let you have a very unique moment to bond with them. You'll talk about it most often because it will mark the day you watch "Satan's Slave".
