ABS-CBN and TFC mark “Maalaala Mo Kaya’s” 25th anniversary by bringing the program’s inspirational talk series with Ms. Charo Santos, to Filipinos in Madrid for its first destination

As part of its 25th year of bringing life to the stories of Filipinos, ABS-CBN’s Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) Asia’s longest-running drama anthology, is taking it a plane higher as it brings the first “Kwentuhang Kapamilya” outside the Philippines to kababayans in Madrid, Spain with Ms. Charo Santos, and to Filipinos worldwide via its global online premiere on TFC.tv on June 27, 8 p.m. Manila time.

As a way of thanking its viewers, ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel (TFC) are bringing the storytelling closer to Filipinos of the world by bringing no less than Ms. Santos to hear for herself, the accounts of kababayans who have stories to tell and valuable life lessons to impart.

Over the past 25 years, “MMK” has become part of the lives of Filipinos as it mirrored their life struggles, triumphs and lessons, as essayed in its tagline “Ikaw Ang Bida Sa Kuwento Mo.”

First seen on television in 1991, it has been shared and experienced by audiences across platforms: radio, movies, music, books, merchandise and including its sub-titled version for non-Filipino speaking viewers of TFC.

As an essential part of the anniversary, “MMK 25” launches “Kwentuhang Kapamilya” where overseas Filipinos (OFs) will share the stories themselves starting in Madrid, true to its adage. The inspirational talk series hopes viewers worldwide can derive lessons from kababayans who have been there.

The narratives tell of parents, siblings and spouses who may have had a hard time at first but worked their way to success and are now able to enjoy their lives with their loved ones. Their struggles may persist in different forms, but at the end of the day, “MMK 25” wishes to impart that they just need to be resilient and focused on their dreams.

Playing key roles as well in the first if a series of inspirational talks is ABS-CBN Europe, Middle East and Africa Managing Director Kai V. Rodriguez and the TFC team in Europe, host Amy Perez, singer Jona, and Filipino community leaders.

After creating history in the Philippine movie industry and continuing to break box office records to date with about a Php 100M in ticket sales three days after its release, “A Second Chance” is set to unfold to audiences worldwide, eager to see the sequel to one of the most iconic Filipino romantic films of all time in, “One More Chance.”
Now officially recorded as the Philippine film with the highest ticket sales on its opening day, outside the Metro Manila Film Festival, “A Second Chance,” is the sequel to “One More Chance,” the movie which has created a cult following of Filipino fans worldwide for its memorable lines and inspiring story of Popoy (played by John Lloyd Cruz) and Basha (played by Bea Alonzo) who give each other an opportunity to love again.
With a huge number of Filipinos who could relate to one of the most beautiful stories told on Philippine cinema, the first movie has already spawned a CD and DVD version and have been screened worldwide via Pay-per-View on TFC and TFC.tv. The movie which stars two of the countries’ biggest on-screen partners, also produced a book version eight years after it first touched the hearts of moviegoers worldwide, making it a veritable part of the Filipino pop culture.

According to Bea, more than them deserving praise for influencing Filipino romantics and even the new generation or the millennials’ perception on love, she is even more delighted as to how their movie and their characters have been accepted. “I am very proud of the Filipino audience na tinatanggap nila ng ganito ang pelikula (I am very proud of how receptive the Filipino audience has been of our movie.” Bea says.

Now, John Lloyd and Bea brilliantly reprise their iconic roles in Star Cinema’s sequel A Second Chance, which will be shared by TFC@theMovies to eager fans worldwide.

Set seven years after their reconciliation, A Second Chance is the continuation of Popoy and Basha’s story after they’ve given love one more chance. This time, the film explores the realities and complexities of a married life.

Years after their grand wedding, Popoy is a failed engineer, struggling to keep his business afloat and his self-esteem solid. Basha on the other hand, becomes a submissive wife, giving up a lot to keep her marriage intact.

By creating a different picture of the two characters Pinoys have grown to love, A Second Chance also dares to ask the question of whether love can remain the same even when people change.

John Lloyd shares that his character Popoy captures this reality in one of his memorable lines in the movie. He says, “It takes courage to face the reality that love is not always about wines and roses. “It’s brave to ask what if not but it’s even braver to embrace what is - this is one of the core of our story.”

Also reprising her role at the helm of this blockbuster franchise is blockbuster director Cathy Garcia Molina as well as the incomparable writing tandem of the very talented screenwriters Carmi G. Raymundo and Vanessa R. Valdez.
Immortal lines “Sana ako pa rin. Ako na lang. Ako na lang ulit,” and “She had me at my worst. You had me at my best…and you chose to break my heart,” resonated in the hearts and minds of an entire generation of Filipino moviegoers to this very day. The writing tandem hopes to create more lines in this sequel which they hope will reverberate as well.

Pinoys in Melbourne & Sydney came together and sang with Zanjoe Marudo, Beauty Gonzales, Kakai, Aiza Seguerra, Angeline Quinto and Erik Santos at TFC’s two-day entertainment fare

While set apart by Australia’s massive terrain, the Filipinos “Down Under” came together for The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) second installment of the much-anticipated OK Go! Australia on September 18 and 20. TFC roused thousands of Filipinos at the Planetshakers Centre in South Melbourne and the Rosehill Gardens Raceourse in Sydney with exciting Kapamilya stars bringing a two-day, world-class entertainment extravaganza that engaged kababayans to a veritable sing-a-long.

“2015 OKGo! Australia,” the second installment in TFC’s series of blockbuster events for kababayans in Australia, engaged over four thousand Filipinos in Melbourne and Sydney with hours of world-class voices and exciting performances of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) hits and classics; mainstream international hits; the latest dance craze and pure Pinoy fun.

According to Asia Pacific Managing Director for ABS-CBN Global Ltd. Ailene Averion “Last year, TFC celebrated 20 years of service to Filipinos worldwide. This year’s OKGo! Australia continues to be a showcase of Filipino talent, our kababayans’ fondness for entertainment and the Pinoy’s unique bayanihanspirit wherever in the world they may be.”
Highlighting TFC’s poste event is “Dream Dad” love team Zanjoe Marudo and Beauty Gonzales singing a string of OPM hits such as “Kapag Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko” and “Pusong Bato.”
Thrilling the audience even more was when host and “Your Face Sounds Familiar” star Kakai Bautista pulled out three ladies from the audience to join Marudo for an on-stage contest where Marudo then proceeded to serenade the winning contestant with “Hinahanap-hanap Kita.”
Raising the entertainment level was Queen of Teleserye Themes Angeline Quinto singing fan favorites such as “Anong Nangyari Sa Atin” and King of Teleserye Themes Erik Santos singing his classics such as “This is the Moment” and his own version of international hit “Titanium.”
Turning the concert into a veritable sing-along was Aiza Seguerra who performed her biggest hit “Pagdating ng Panahon” to which Filipinos from all walks of life sang along with. Seguerra also performed her own version of OPM rock hit “El Bimbo.”
Sealing the entertainment fare on both the Melbourne and Sydney shows was the cast’s performance of “Good Time” which pretty much sums up what the TFC event was all about –pure fun and world-class entertainment with Kapamilyas.

According to Averion, the audience response may have not come as a surprise but the feedback was rewarding.

Averion shared “We were challenged with the fact that Filipinos here are from distant areas and it will take them one good reason to pull out of their daily grind and come together as one community. I see now that when you give them a good show, they will reward you with a kind of response that validates all the hard work we put into setting up One Kapamilya Go!” Averion added, “Our Kapamilyas joined the performers as they sang along to each song; danced to each hit; laughed to the stars’ banter; and celebrated togetherness with fellow Filipinos.”
