For a mom who rarely watch mystery, suspense or other thrilling movies, this particular film is a mind-boggling. It really made me think while watching, wanting to know what was it all about. You'll think you have the idea but guess again.

Presented by VIVA International Pictures and MVP Entertainment, “Serenity” is a film filled with thought-provoking scenes that will give its viewers more sense of mystery than serenity.

Its main character Baker Dill, played by Matthew McConaughey (Academy Award Best Actor for Dallas Buyers Club), is a fishing boat captain leading a quiet life in Plymouth Island until his ex-wife Karen shows up with what Matthew has described in an interview as ”a very indecent proposal” .

Karen is played by Anne Hathaway (Academy Award Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables), is now married to a multi-millionaire named Frank, played by Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Terminator Genisys). Will make an interesting addition to the mystery of the movie.

Talking about her character, Hathaway says that she’s “in a desperate situation” because she is “trapped in a toxic and abusive marriage”. She wants Baker to get rid of Frank by taking him out on a fishing tour and dropping him in the ocean for the sharks.

Hathaway reveals that she and Baker “got together when Karen was quite young”. They had a child, but he went to war and it tore their family apart. “And so she has to figure out what she’s gonna do, being a single mom. She finds this guy (Frank) who kinda reminds her of Dill. He likes to fish. She starts to think like maybe she can build a life with him, and then he turns out to be her worst nightmare come true.”

Baker, who is now romancing Constance, a moneyed beauty of Plymouth Island, played by Diane Lane (Academy Award nominee for Unfaithful), is still trying to move on from his troubled past. But can he truly turn his back on his ex-wife? What will it take for him to forget about his conscience and help her out?


Director Steven Knight (Lock, Redemption), who also wrote the screenplay, attests that “Matthew is the best there is” when it comes to playing Baker Dill. He explains that the character “doesn’t give of himself too readily, someone who’s closed in and I thought that was Matthew. Because of the nature of the twist I want beautiful people…and he’s also beautiful.” As a writer, two of Knight’s best known works are Seventh Son and The Girl in the Spider's Web.

Serenity is McConaughey and Hathaway’s second movie together. The first was Interstellar in 2014.

Asked what drew them to do this movie, Matthew replies, “I saw a character that I could be very personal with, really find an identity that I can understand.” It’s also a well-written story, plus Knight is a writer/director that he trusts.

Hathaway agrees with McConaughey about the story being creative and extraordinary. “I got half-way through (reading) and I have no idea what’s going on, but I’m completely in and I just let it carry me away. And I wind up in a place that was very different than I thought it was going to, but it was a place of feeling and intelligence and soulfulness.”

Serenity was filmed in Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa. It opens in cinemas on February 13.

Inagaw na Bituin is a riveting tale that started when Anna, the daughter of showbiz power couple Belinda and Eduard, was kidnapped. The kidnappers were caught dead but Anna was never found. Devastated with the loss of their child, the two decided to end their marriage. Belinda suffers a nervous breakdown and with her sister unstable, Lucy takes control of Belinda’s assets which she used to rebuild her singing career. Little did they know that Anna is still alive, living with her kidnapper’s  family and changed her name to Elsa.

Years later, Anna/Elsa and Ariela’s worlds collide in the pursuance of their music careers. Their rise to fame led to the unravelling of Anna’s true identity and the despicable secrets of her family. Apart from sharing the same dream, the two also vie for the heart of the man they both love.

Enchong Dee and Janine Gutierrez team up for a movie that brings a true-to-life comedy drama in the movie ELISE. This is Regal entertainment's opening salvo for the year 2019.

ELISE is Enchong Dee and Janine Gutierrez's reunion in the big screen after their previous movie in 2016 entitled Lia.


This time, Enchong, a Kapamilya star, and Janine, a Kapuso star, pair up for a movie that tackles about finding your soulmate and seeking your purpose in life.

What is special about this movie is that it is based on real life events, which was revealed by director Joel Ferrer.

"It's a biopic romantic comedy that depicts events in the life of Bert (played by Enchong), who is quick-witted but sickly emotional and independent guy, who falls for Elise (played by Janine), who is a strong tough, independent woman."

Early on since childhood, Bert developed feelings for Elise. But puppy love is not yet something that should be taken seriously.

Later on, they get separated to pursue education, chase their dreams for a bright future. In short, both of them move on with their lives.

But years after, their paths cross and old feelings get rekindled. Unfortunately, their situation is different now, they are not young kids anymore and love is not a children's game.

New struggles arise when their situations and people around them do not work in their favor.

Are they willing to beat the odds to be finally together?

Direk Joel clarifies that ELISE is not just a love story.

"It's a long journey from start to finish. This is a story of finding your purpose in life. We start from naging sila na bata, ganyan."

"It talks about love, moving on, loving again, chasing, and finidng your dream , and your values."

Janine explained, "ELISE is a lifelong love story about these people na parang their whole lives parang nag-i-intertwine ang mga buhay nila. Ang tanong ay magkakatuluyan ba ang first love nila o hindi."

For his part, Enchong points out that the fact that this happened in real lfie makes it a movie worth watching.

"Nangyari siya sa tunay na buhay. it's a biopic. ang hirap kasi minsan tatanungin ng tao, 'Posible ba 'to? nangyayari ba talaga ito?' The fact taht it's a love story na coming from a person na specially close to Direk, I think yun yung part na maganda kasi may pinagkukuhaan kami ng tunay na kwento."

As dengue continues to be one of the rapidly proliferating, indirectly transmitted diseases in over 100 countries including the Philippines according to the World Health Organization, French-owned company Kyzox Innovations recently tapped PascualLab’s Leonie Agri Corp. (LAC) as its exclusive supplier of Lagundi (Five-leaved chaste tree) a locally-grown herb, known for its possible anti-dengue benefits. The relationship was formalized during a contract signing led by Kyzox Innovations Founder and CEO, Dr. Francois Martin and LAC, represented by President Antonio “Tony” Causing at the PascualLab Headquarters in Quezon City last January 8.

Kyzox Innovation, known for developing an anti-mosquito additive for household and industrial use, uses an advanced drug-delivery system known as nanotechnology in its anti-mosquito products. According to the Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Lagundi, scientifically known as Vitex negundo L., can help prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue: "Owing to its improved bioavailability and biocompatibility, formulated nanoemulsion (from Vitex negundo L.) can be used in various biomedical applications including drug delivery as well as disease-transmitting mosquito-vector control" (As published in Environmental Science and Pollution Research. 2017. 24 [17]:1525-1513).
